Our visit to Michelin headquarters in Greenville for the Earthmover Tire Seminar provided valuable insight into large-scale tire manufacturing and performance. The tour of the US10 production facility highlighted the complexity involved in producing mining tires for rigid frame haul trucks, some exceeding 12–13 feet in height.

The seminar covered key aspects of tire maintenance, wear patterns, and the significant role tires play in overall fleet operating costs. Emphasis was also placed on how tire selection and site conditions directly impact fuel consumption and production efficiency. We went over a range of tire designs used across the construction and mining industries, along with the variables that influence their performance.

Our crew also went to Laurens Proving Grounds where real-world testing was demonstrated showing how tires are validated under extreme conditions and varied terrains to ensure durability and performance beyond industry expectations. A lot of learning and definitely some fun was had.
